Service Projects

Sponsor a service project as an individual or through your community group. We serve up to 150 folks each time we go out. So, your projects can potentially touch the lives of many people each month.

Delivering Service Projects

Your projects should be delivered to JTTS:

You can also email Phyllis Shows to arrange a different time and location to deliver your service projects.

Examples of Service Projects

Donated hygiene kits with handwritten notes of encouragement.
  • Greeting cards: handwritten cards for special holidays (Valentine’s Day, Christmas). Your love and encouragement will touch people’s hearts.
  • Hygiene kits: buying supplies and packing hygiene kits. These can be packed as unisex or as specific for male and female.
    • Most requested items include wet wipes, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, alcohol-free mouthwash, toothbrushes, dental floss, lip balm, disposable safety razors, sunscreen, bug spray, lotion, combs, antibiotic cream/ointment, antifungal creams, bandaids/bandages, tissues, and feminine hygiene.
    • Be creative with kit containers—canvas bags, shaving totes, cosmetic bags, fanny packs, shoulder bags, and other things that are reusable and long-lasting are highly valued by our friends!
    • Items should be travel sized. Big bottles are too hard to carry on the streets.
    • For things like bandaids/bandages and feminine hygiene, please open the box and put several items into smaller baggies before including in the kit.
    • For first aid items (bug spray, sunscreen, creams/ointments) please put in a zip-top bag to separate them from consumable products like toothpaste.
  • Snack bags: beef jerky, soft granola bars, breakfast bars or cereal bars, chocolate, hard candy, mints, peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, raisins/dried fruit, snack cups/applesauce/pudding cups, tuna/chicken salad cracker kits, etc.
  • Lunch bag decoration (possible youth activity): decorating our brown-paper lunch bags with seasonal art.
  • Reading glasses: cheap readers (not prescription glasses) are a big need on the streets.
    • Many of our friends have poor or failing eyesight but they cannot afford to see a doctor or get glasses. Cheap readers reopen the world by giving them the opportunity to read again.
    • Consider buying in bulk and getting a variety of magnifications from these sources: (1) CTS Wholesale or (2) American Reading Glasses.
  • Pet food: buy in-bulk and repackage in large zip-top bags, which are labeled “dog food” or “cat food.”
  • Incontinence supplies: pads and underwear for bladder leaks. Repackaged with several in individual baggies for distribution (please label baggies “leaks”).
  • Feminine hygiene: while these can be included in hygiene kits, we always see an extra need for feminine hygiene! Repackaged with several in individual baggies for distribution (please label baggies “fem”).
  • Bibles: we love to distribute Bibles when we are asked or when we see the need in a willing heart.Consider buying in bulk: (1) Bibles in Bulk or (2) Lifeway.
  • Large & Giant Print: standard Bibles are often printed in small lettering, which may be difficult for many people to see. Here are a couple of sources for (1) Large Print and (2) Giant Print versions.
  • Please provide NLT (6th-grade reading level) or NIV (7th-grade level) versions when possible. These translations are easier for people with literacy limitations or learning setbacks to read while still providing accurate and detailed interpretations for in-depth studies.
